Château de Champlâtreux
In the heart of the 'Pays de France', the Champlâtreux estate, in the Val-d'Oise, was formed from 1515 and bought in 1614 by the Molé family, who enlarged it to its present size.
Members of the noblesse de robe, the Molés held the highest offices from the Ancien Régime to the end of the Restoration. The last of the line, Mathieu-Louis, Count Molé, was a minister under the Empire and Prime Minister to King Louis-Philippe, who held council in the château.
Champlâtreux welcomed and inspired illustrious writers, such as Chateaubriand, a close friend of Count Molé, and the poet Anna de Noailles, who often stayed here between the wars.
