Château d'Arnouville
Located in Arnouville, in the Val-d'Oise, the château passed in 1750 to Jean-Baptiste de Machault d'Arnouville, minister of Louis XV. It has kept its grandeur thanks to its refined architecture and its vast park.
Between 1751 and 1757, major works were carried out by the architects Pierre Contant d'Ivry and Jean-Michel Chevotet to enlarge the estate. They stopped the following year, after the minister fell from favour. His descendants nevertheless lived there until 1868. From then until 1921, the château had several owners, including Baroness de Rothschild.
In 1921 Madame Hérold bought the estate, which at her request became a care home for soldiers suffering from nervous injuries in the First World War, then a horticultural training centre, a role it has kept.
The 50-hectare park, with its orangery and broad vistas, is entered through an imposing gate made by Jean-Baptiste Nesles, master locksmith of Arnouville.
