Château de Brandon

Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Château de Brandon is at Saint-Pierre-de-Varennes, in the Saône-et-Loire. It was built on the site of a Gallo-Roman camp and was part of the defences of the Duchy of Burgundy until the 16th century, before being turned into a residence.

The estate has a remarkably well-preserved dovecote. The château has been on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 10 June 1975.

A private property, it used to open to visitors in summer for guided tours on its history. However, it has been closed to the public since 2020; its heir has undertaken works in the hope of reopening it. It is best to check with the château before going.
