Château d'Anet
The Château d'Anet is a Renaissance château built for Diane de Poitiers at the request of King Henry II, in the mid-16th century. It was built under the direction of the architect Philibert Delorme, with the sculptor Jean Goujon and the painter Jean Cousin. Diane retired here in 1565 and died the following year.
After the Revolution much of the building was demolished; what remains includes an entrance gateway, a wing and the funerary chapel built by her daughter Louise de Brézé, where Diane de Poitiers is buried. The chapel has recently been renovated.
The guided tour covers the interior, the courtyard and the chapel, and the park may be open during events. Opposite the château, an interpretation centre offers a route devoted to the Renaissance. Anet lies in the Eure valley, in the north of the Eure-et-Loir, near Dreux.
