Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Saint-Omer

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France

Notre-Dame de Saint-Omer cathedral, in the Pas-de-Calais, is a former Catholic cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles. Raised in several stages between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, it offers a rare example of northern French Gothic. Listed as a historic monument on the first list of 1840, it became a basilica in 1879. Its bell tower rises about 50 metres.

Inside, you notice the Baroque organ case installed in 1717, an astronomical clock and a Descent from the Cross painted by Rubens in 1612, displayed in the nave.

The Pays de Saint-Omer tourist office offers visits with a guide-lecturer as well as four historic circuits to follow freely in the town. The cathedral is open for free visits during Heritage Days.
