Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rodez

Aveyron, Occitanie

The construction of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Rodez, in the Aveyron, lasted from 1277 to the end of the 16th century, which explains the mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles. Its massive, fortified appearance on the square side contrasts with the flamboyance of its west front, decorated with a finely worked rose window.

The bell tower, completed in the 16th century, rises to 87 metres and is among the tallest in southern France. Built of local pink sandstone, the cathedral changes colour with the light, offering visitors on the Place d'Armes a particularly photogenic sight at sunset.
