Musée Fenaille

Aveyron, Occitanie

The Musée Fenaille, in Rodez in the Aveyron, is a museum of history and archaeology. Its collections cover the period from the Palaeolithic to the present day; several belong to the Société des lettres, sciences et arts de l'Aveyron, and many benefactors have also made donations.

The museum has a famous collection of statue-menhirs, accompanied by everyday objects of the people who lived in the Rouergue in the Neolithic. The life of the Ruteni is illustrated by burials, sculptures, mosaics and everyday objects. The Middle Ages are represented by sculptures from convents and churches of the region and by objects of daily life.

The 16th century and the Renaissance are illustrated by tapestries commissioned by the bishops of Rodez, stained glass and sculptures. The furnishings of a middle-class house of the late 16th and early 17th centuries are also on display.
