Cascades de Chiloza
The Chiloza waterfalls lie east of Besse, in the commune of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, in the Sancy massif. The Couze Pavin, which rises near Super-Besse, has carved its bed into a lava flow, forming a succession of small falls over about a kilometre.
Along the river are the Saut de Bec, the Cascade de la Reine, the Caverne and the Chaudrons, as well as potholes carved into the volcanic rock.
The Sancy tourist office suggests a loop of about six kilometres, taking two hours, of moderate difficulty with just over 200 metres of ascent, ending at the 'Fleurs de lave' sculptures. Other shorter or longer routes also lead there, and guided outings are sometimes organised.
