Cascade de Pérouse

Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Pérouse waterfall is in the Chaudefour valley, in the commune of Chambon-sur-Lac, in the Sancy massif, in Auvergne. The valley is a classified natural site and a national nature reserve, where dogs, even on a lead, are forbidden.

The waterfall, modest in size, is mostly noticed in winter when it freezes. You reach it on foot from the car park of the Maison de la Réserve, on the D36 between Besse and Le Mont-Dore, by a marked path: an easy walk of about half an hour, then a steeper path of about ten minutes.

Many hikers combine it with the higher Cascade de la Biche, reached a little further up the valley.
