Cascade du Géhard
The Géhard waterfall (also spelled Gerhard) is at Girmont-Val-d'Ajol, in the southern part of the Vosges, not far from the Girmont ponds. The stream swirls there in a narrow gorge bordered by steep rocks, in the middle of the Vosges forest.
The torrent has carved giants' kettles in the rock, rounded water holes formed by the whirl of pebbles and water. These forms, characteristic of mountain torrents in hard rock, are visible along the watercourse.
The site is a walking destination in a forest setting and several hikes in the region pass through it. The place is close to other curiosities of the Val d'Ajol, such as the Faymont waterfall, a few kilometres away. Detailed access information should be requested from the local tourist office.
