Caps de Girolata

Corse-du-Sud, Corse

The capes of Girolata and Porto, the Scandola nature reserve and the Piana calanques form one of the most beautiful natural ensembles of Corsica. The Gulf of Girolata is the miniature replica of the Gulf of Porto, right next to it. It is bordered by very tall red cliffs, more than 300 metres for some, and wrapped in maquis. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1983.

The Scandola reserve, part of the Corsica regional nature park, occupies a porphyry peninsula of tormented shapes. There you find remarkable maquis vegetation, gulls, cormorants and sea eagles. The transparent waters, islets and caves are discovered by boat from Porto.
