Presqu'île d'Omigna

Corse-du-Sud, Corse

The Pointe d'Omigna, Punta d'Omigna in Corsican, is a coastal promontory in the commune of Cargèse, in the Corse-du-Sud. It juts some four kilometres into the Mediterranean, closing the Gulf of Chiuni to the south and bordering the Gulf of Peru to the north. Its relief is gentle, rising to about 64 metres, with scrubland, granite cliffs and former farmland.

Dry-stone walls, threshing floors, old sheepfolds and a bread oven recall that wheat and barley were grown here until the early 20th century. The site is best known for the Omigna tower, a 16th-century Genoese tower and a landmark on the coast. It is explored on foot, with fine views over the sea and the neighbouring gulfs.
