Rochers du col de Verde

Corse-du-Sud, Corse

The Col de Verde, at 1,289 metres' altitude, is one of the four great passes of Corsica with Vergio, Vizzavona and Bavella. It links Ghisoni, to the north, with Cozzano, to the south. Along this mountain road, red granite rocks rise up, sculpted by erosion into sometimes strange shapes, in which the imagination sees silhouettes of people or animals.

These natural sculptures illustrate the geological richness of Corsican granite. At the foot of the pass, the village of Cozzano offers views of the granite summits, beech and pine forests and a large chestnut grove. On the road, you also pass through Zicavo, a village known for its granite houses with carved porches.
