Cap Estérel

Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Between the Mediterranean and Provence, the Estérel, in the Var, is a volcanic massif of 32,000 hectares, 13,000 of which are listed and legally protected. It has superb peaks of red volcanic rock. The bay of Agay is the natural gateway to the massif.

There are countless walks in the Estérel: the Pic de l'Ours, the Rocher de Saint-Barthélemy, the Dramont inlet, the Cap Roux viewpoint, Mont Vinaigre, which rises to 614 metres, and the Perthus and Malinfernet ravines with their springs. Easier walks nearby go around the Dramont lighthouse, returning by the Landing Beach. It is advisable to get the Estérel massif map or the guide published by the ONF forestry office, sold at the tourist office.
