Zoo de Jurques

Calvados, Normandie

The Jurques Zoo is a private zoological park at Jurques, in the Calvados, about half an hour from Caen. It occupies a wooded park of about fifteen hectares, which you walk through freely along shaded paths.

More than six hundred animals of some hundred and fifty species are presented there: big cats, primates, giraffes, zebras, red pandas and reptiles. White lions, a rare form of the lion, are its emblem, and several births have taken place at the park. You can also see West African giraffes, Siberian tigers and snow leopards.

Visitors can attend commented feedings, notably of lions, wolves or cheetahs, meet the keepers and take part in a snake-handling experience. The park has a shop, a restaurant and a picnic area.

It is run by the Ourry family and opens seasonally, from late winter to autumn.
