Villeneuve-d'Aveyron

Aveyron, Occitanie

Villeneuve, often called Villeneuve-d'Aveyron, is one of the five bastides of the département, with Najac, Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue and La Bastide-l'Évêque. Like all medieval new towns, it was built to a regular plan, around a central square surrounded by arcades. It is ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.

The centre has kept stone houses, arcades, chessboard streets and a quiet atmosphere. You visit the village on foot in about an hour. It lies in the west of the département, on the road to Villefranche-de-Rouergue, and can be combined with Najac, Belcastel, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue and the other bastides of the Rouergue.
