Villascopia

Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Villascopia, in the Lot-et-Garonne, is a new kind of archaeological site that uses 21st-century technology to bring a buried world back to life: that of the Gallo-Romans in the 4th century.

In 1970 a magnificent headless statue of Minerva emerged from the ground, revealing the Gallo-Roman villa of Lamarque. Nearly forty years later the baths of one of the finest villas in Gaul were fully excavated and staged in a 'Scénovision' show: 3D computer images, rear projection and surround sound recreate the refinement and way of life of the inhabitants of the time.
