Villard de Lans
Villard-de-Lans is part of the Vercors regional nature park. The commune lies at the foot of the Grande Moucherolle, the second-highest summit of the Vercors at 2,285 m. The karst ground of Villard-de-Lans lets water seep through, hence the absence of natural lakes. However, Villard-de-Lans has a seasonal pond, the Lac du Lauzet, which fills by capillarity at snowmelt.
Villard-de-Lans is the main town of the northern Vercors massif, in the Isère, an area also known as the Quatre-Montagnes or Val de Lans.
