Village des Tortues
The Village des Tortues is run by SOPTOM and opened in 1988. It is a natural place, unique in the world, where the tortoises of our regions (2,800) are studied, taken in and protected, especially Hermann's tortoise, the most threatened reptile in France. It covers two hectares of countryside, in a landscape of garrigue and Provençal forest. It is a centre open to the public at the foot of the Maures massif, amid cork oaks, lavender, strawberry trees and rockroses.
