Vesoul

Haute-Saône, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Made famous by Jacques Brel's song, which made it a symbol of quiet provincial life, Vesoul lies at the foot of the Motte hill, whose wooded summit, laid out as a park and crowned by a statue of the Virgin, offers a wide view over the old town and the Comtois countryside.

The historic centre, with grey stone houses typical of Franche-Comté, is centred on the Basilica of Saint-Georges, while some mansions recall the town's long administrative role. A few kilometres away, the Vesoul-Vaivre lake, equipped for swimming and water sports, completes the leisure offer of this rural prefecture between the Vosges and the Langres plateau.
