Tumulus de Bougon

Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Bougon Tumulus Museum, the departmental museum of prehistory in the Deux-Sèvres, preserves five barrows and presents the Neolithic cultures that built these megalithic monuments 7,000 years ago.

Room after room, visitors discover this key period in human history, which saw the emergence of farming societies, settled life and new technologies such as stone polishing, weaving and pottery. Linking the museum to the necropolis, a 16-hectare park is laid out as a discovery trail with life-size reconstructions of dwellings and a botanical garden. Throughout the year, family activities and archaeology workshops are offered on prehistory or on the temporary exhibitions.
