Réserve naturelle du Marais de Lavours

Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

A national nature reserve since 1984, the Lavours marsh, in the Ain, covers 473 hectares beside the Rhône, at the foot of the dizzying face of the Grand Colombier. It is one of the last large alkaline marshes of the Rhône valley, spared by the river's development works.

A discovery trail on stilts, more than two kilometres long, crosses reed beds, tall-herb meadows and riverside forests without disturbing the many migratory birds and dragonflies that find refuge here. The Maison du Marais, at the entrance, has an exhibition on the reserve's wildlife and plants.
