Parc de Martinvast
5 km from Cherbourg, discover the Château and Flower Park of Martinvast, both listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments. In this enchanting setting, the three parts of the château form a harmonious ensemble and bear witness to the rich past of the place. Thus the 11th-century keep is elegantly linked, by a 19th-century neo-Gothic construction, to the surviving wing of the old 16th-century château.
The whole is surrounded by an English-style park with meadows, woods, ponds, waterfalls and follies, including an 18th-century "Obelisk". Sumptuous beds of tree rhododendrons and gunneras grow sheltered by exotic conifers in the Reserved Garden, which is also adorned with many flowering shrubs (hydrangeas, camellias, magnolias, andromedas, kalmias...).
