Musée du Louvre-Lens
Inaugurated in December 2012, the Louvre-Lens is set on a former pithead, in the heart of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Mining Basin, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage. In a glass and light building designed by the Japanese architects of the Sanaa agency, opening onto a landscaped park of 20 hectares, it presents the prestigious collections of the Louvre museum, as well as temporary exhibitions of international scope.
The Louvre-Lens is a public cultural cooperation establishment founded by the region, the Pas-de-Calais département, the Lens-Liévin urban community, the town of Lens and the Louvre museum. This "second Louvre" is in Lens; it is an autonomous establishment, linked to the Paris Louvre museum by an agreement.
