Musée du Béret à Nay
The Beret Museum is on place Saint-Roch, in Nay, in Béarn, in a former beret factory. It was opened in 1996 by the Blancq-Olibet company, which had made berets since 1819, before passing in 2014 to Laulhère, the last beret maker in France. The building is a fine stone construction in Directoire style.
The museum tells the history of the beret, its uses and the way of wearing it, through a film translated into several languages. Above all it presents a set of old working machines that explain the stages of manufacture, some of which still run. Old photographs and video testimonies complete the route.
A shop is set up on site. Only the ground floor is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Groups can have guided visits by appointment.
This museum is for those curious about industrial history, lovers of know-how and families, on the road from Pau to Lourdes.
