Musée départemental d'art ancien et contemporain
On the upstream tip of an island in the Moselle at Épinal, in the Vosges, the departmental museum of old and contemporary art stands on the site of the former Saint-Lazare hospital, built in the 17th century.
The bold architecture of the new building, with its many volumes, gives visitors a pleasant feeling of freedom. A transverse glass roof lets in plenty of daylight, and footbridges offer views of neighbouring rooms and floors. The old walls incorporated into the new building link old art with the contemporary art collection, the fourth largest in France.
