Musée de Normandie

Calvados, Normandie

The Musée de Normandie is a municipal museum of the city of Caen, in the Calvados département, region of Basse-Normandie. Founded in 1946, it opened within the walls of the château de Caen in 1963. Initially devoted to ethnography, the museum extended to archaeology, with a room opened in 1968, and collections enriched by the many archaeological digs carried out in the département up to the 1980s. The Caen fine arts museum settled within the château walls and opened in June 1970.
