Maréis, Centre de découverte de la Pêche et de la mer
Maréis is the sea fishing discovery centre of Étaples-sur-Mer, on the Opal Coast. It occupies La Corderie, a former fishing-net factory, on boulevard Bigot Descelers.
The route takes the visitor from the shipyard to the open sea: fishing techniques, life aboard a trawler and the trades of the sea are presented in a lively way. Aquariums show the fauna of the Channel and the North Sea, with more than 500 animals to observe, including a nursery where young rays and dogfish are born.
A touch pool lets you touch rays and other fish, which particularly appeals to children. Educational films and a navigation simulator complete the visit.
The place suits families and school groups, and combines with a walk in the port of Étaples and the Baie de Canche. Opening is seasonal: it is better to consult the official site before coming.
