Château-musée de Boulogne-sur-Mer

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France

The castle museum of Boulogne-sur-Mer occupies the castle of the Counts of Boulogne, a medieval fortress overlooking the fortified old town. The monument and its rooms house a museum with very varied collections, numbering more than a hundred thousand objects.

The fine arts route offers a panorama of Western painting and sculpture from the fifteenth to the twentieth century, notably with Opal Coast landscapes by Boudin and Corot and sculptures by Carpeaux and Pompon. The museum is also renowned for its large set of Greek, Corinthian, Attic, Etruscan and Italiot vases, assembled in the nineteenth century by Panckoucke: 476 pieces.

The visit also lets you discover the castle itself, its ramparts and vaulted rooms, making it an interesting stop for lovers of history, archaeology and art, as well as families. Educational activities are offered for school groups.
