Le Site du Pont Saint-Martin
The Pont Saint-Martin site nestles in the Échaillon gorges, on the border of Savoie and Isère, where the Guiers Vif escapes from the Chartreuse massif. The bridge, with a single arch set on the rock, once allowed the torrent at the bottom of the gorge to be crossed and served as a border post until 1860, the date of the annexation of Savoie to France. A picturesque path now runs along the edge of the gorges, offering fine views of the waterfalls and the deep walls of the Échaillon.
