Aiguilles d'Arves
The Aiguilles d'Arves form a spectacular alignment of three rocky points rising in the south of Maurienne, on the border between Savoie and the Hautes-Alpes. Their jagged profile, often compared to three blades planted in the sky, has long made them a prized objective for mountaineers as well as a classic photographic motif on mountain postcards.
The southernmost of the three needles, nicknamed the Aiguille Méridionale, exceeds 3,500 metres and remains the hardest to reach of the three. The whole massif offers an exploration ground appreciated by experienced climbers as well as by hikers who come simply to admire the towers from the neighbouring paths.
They are most often observed from the villages of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves or Saint-Jean-d'Arves, or on the climb to the Col de la Croix de Fer. The Aiguilles d'Arves refuge, in the commune of Valloire, lets you extend the discovery of the massif at altitude, particularly during the summer months.
