Le Roc de la Tour
The Roc de la Tour stands in the heart of the Ardennes forest, in the commune of Monthermé, within the Ardennes Regional Nature Park. It consists of two imposing columns of quartzite, one of the oldest and hardest rocks in the region, shaped by millions of years of erosion.
The two broken blocks balance against each other, and no one knows how long this precarious balance will last. They overlook a vast field of mossy boulders, set in a forest of firs and broadleaved trees. As often in the Ardennes, local legend gives these formations a diabolical origin.
