Dames de Meuses
Near Laifour, the Meuse seems to run up against three huge rocks. Life here seems peaceful, as if time had stopped. This legendary site of the Ardennes recalls the punished adultery of the Dames de Meuse. Local tradition tells how the three sons of the Lord of Hierges, after marrying Berthe, Hodierne and Ige, the three daughters of the Lord of Rethel, left for the Crusades, leaving behind their wives, who were unfaithful; and how God, to punish them for failing to keep their marriage vows, turned them into three enormous rocks.
