Château de Montcornet
Built in the 12th century, the fortress of Montcornet, in the Ardennes, overlooks the small Sormonne valley. After the Montcornet family, the estate passed to the Miles de Noyers at the end of the 13th century, before becoming the property of Antoine de Croÿ in 1446, who restored it.
Acquired by Charles de Gonzague in 1613, it was dismantled by the Duke of Aiguillon in 1760. Fallen into ruin, it was dubbed a 'feudal Colosseum' by the historian Michelet.
