Château de Sedan
The château de Sedan, or upper castle, is a former fifteenth-century fortress standing in the commune of Sedan, in the Ardennes. Built on a rocky spur at a strategic location, it was enlarged many times and integrated into Louis XIV's pré carré, the belt of bastioned fortifications protecting the new borders of the kingdom of France.
It is presented as the largest fortress in Europe, with its 35,000 m² on seven levels. The visitor circuit, the Historium, tells its story through reconstructed scenes of life. Listed as a historic monument, it combines with the discovery of the town of Sedan and the Meuse valley.
