Le Crotoy

Somme, Hauts-de-France

Le Crotoy occupies a unique position on the north shore of the Somme estuary, facing Saint-Valery, with a south-facing sandy beach that has made it a popular seaside resort since the 19th century. The small fishing and pleasure port, still active, is home to the tradition of grey shrimp fishermen and cockle gatherers, activities still visible on the quays. The town, where the painter Toulouse-Lautrec spent a summer, keeps a lively seafront of seaside villas and hotels typical of the Belle Époque. At low tide, the vast expanse of sand revealed between the two shores of the bay invites guided walks, while the harbour continues to welcome boats to the rhythm of the tides.
