La vallée de Freissinières

Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Freissinières valley, 25 km from Briançon and 35 km from Italy, lies at the crossroads of an astonishing and varied region. To the north: the passes of the Galibier and Lautaret, the Clarée valley and Montgenèvre; to the east: the Izoard, the Queyras and the Guillestrois; to the south: Embrun and Lake Serre-Ponçon; very close: Ailefroide, the Glacier Blanc, the Barre des Écrins...

Hung above the right bank of the Durance, the Freissinières valley hides behind natural walls of ochre limestone that make it invisible to the hurried traveller; but a few minutes from the main road, Freissinières offers its riches.

Tucked at the end of the hanging Freissinières valley, this circuit lets you discover the pretty site of Dourmillouse and its remarkable waterfalls. A pleasant walk in spring with fields full of mountain flowers. The village of Dourmillouse is also the starting point of other hikes in the heart of the Écrins park.
