La Plagne
La Plagne is a winter sports resort in the Savoie, in the Tarentaise valley. In Savoie dialect, a 'plagne' is a fairly flat place or plateau, sometimes small. It is the name of the spot chosen for the first resort, a surprisingly flat area enclosed in a mountain cirque with a view of Mont Blanc.
Since 2003 La Plagne has formed the Paradiski area with neighbouring Les Arcs, thanks to the Vanoise Express. The area covers 10,000 hectares from 1,250 to 3,250 metres, from the apple trees of the valley to the Bellecôte glacier, across four communes. Paradiski offers 425 km of marked runs, 225 of them on the La Plagne massif, as well as a huge unmarked area and famous off-piste routes such as the north face of the Bellecôte summit and Le Friolin.
