Jardin Médiéval de Bois-Richeux
The medieval farm of Bois-Richeux, in the Eure-et-Loir, is one of the oldest farms in France, established in Celtic times in the centre of the Carnutes forest. In 1178 it became a free town of the chapter of Chartres Cathedral and welcomed the first free peasants.
Throughout the Middle Ages it was an important fortified farm with its manor, chapel, 12th-century tithe barn and 13th-century dovecote. In 1674 it was acquired by Madame de Maintenon and Louis XIV. The medieval garden of Bois-Richeux bears witness to this exceptional history.
