Jardin des plantes de Nantes
The Jardin des Plantes of Nantes, in the Loire-Atlantique, has more than 10,000 living species, 800 square metres of greenhouses and more than 50,000 flowers planted each season. Labelled 'Jardin Remarquable', it is counted among the four great botanical gardens of France.
Over 150 years its collections have grown and specialised. As much a scientific garden as a pleasure garden, it has become a world reference, notably for its camellia collection, its cultivation of epiphytic plants (which grow on other plants without being parasites) in a semi-natural setting, and its constant work to reintroduce rare species.
