Grotte du Trésor

Doubs, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

This site is in the Val du Saugeais, near Montbenoît. In this winding gorge, the road is cut between remarkable limestone escarpments, where two caves open: the Grotte du Trésor and the Grotte de Notre-Dame de Remorot, converted into a chapel and place of pilgrimage. The water of its spring is said to cure eye diseases.

The Grotte du Trésor: The portal is large but is closed by a siphon 150 m from the entrance. Beyond, nearly 2 km of galleries have been explored.
