Cascade de Syratu
The Syratu waterfall is in the commune of Mouthier-Haute-Pierre, in the Doubs. It rushes down the Baume cliff, above the village, before joining the Loue. It is the largest waterfall in the département, with a total drop of about 230 metres, spread over several leaps.
It consists of three parts: an almost vertical fall of about fifty metres from the edge of the plateau, an intermediate part visible from the gorges road, then a descent on a wooded slope where the water forms several tufa-covered cascades.
The lower part, the most picturesque, is reached on foot by the GR 590 long-distance path. The site, fragile and classified Natura 2000, has suffered heavy attendance: the commune closed in 2022 the last stretch of road leading there.
