Grande Cascade du Bois de Boulogne

Paris, Île-de-France

The Grande Cascade of the Bois de Boulogne, in Paris, is one of the landscape features commissioned by Napoleon III when the wood was transformed into a large English-style park in the 19th century under the architect Adolphe Alphand.

The water pours from a rockwork grotto topped by a century-old cedar of Lebanon, sliding over several rock ledges before reaching the Lac Inférieur, the largest lake in the wood. This Romantic setting, designed to evoke English natural landscapes, remains one of the favourite walks of Parisians seeking greenery on the edge of the capital.
