Gorges et site de Montfermy

23 km from Clermont-Ferrand, around Pontgibaud, the Sioule changes character, sometimes narrow and fast, sometimes calm and deep. For about ten kilometres upstream, as far as the Miouze, along the D986, the river is slow and deep.

Downstream, the D418 follows the Sioule to Montfermy. In the gorges, rapids and narrows follow one another, where trout lie in wait in their hiding places, even in summer. Anglers have the best chance of success early in the morning, in the shade of the trees.
