Dinosauria

Aude, Occitanie

Dinosauria is the dinosaur museum of Espéraza, in the upper Aude valley, on place du Maréchal-de-Lattre-de-Tassigny. Since 1992 it has been run by the Dinosauria association, which also carries out excavations and research in the area.

The museum presents about forty life-size reconstructed specimens, as well as skulls and skeletons, one of them 12 metres long. Part of the exhibition is devoted to Tyrannosaurus. A greenhouse recalls the vegetation of the Cretaceous, about 70 million years ago. Films are also shown, and a palaeontology workshop completes the visit.

The museum is linked to the site where Eva was found, the most complete skeleton of a large dinosaur discovered in France. Guided tours of the excavation site are offered.

Workshops are aimed at children from age 5, and during school holidays 6–12-year-olds can try excavation techniques. A visit generally takes one to two hours. The place is for families, school groups and palaeontology enthusiasts.
