Château du Tauzia

Gers, Occitanie

In the early 11th century a family named Tauzia took possession of the land in the Gers on which the first castle was later built by Menaud de Barbazan, one of the loyal vassals of Count Jean d'Armagnac. The fortress consisted of a rectangular three-storey building with a square gate tower and an octagonal bartizan, a fairly typical construction of the Gascon castles of the 12th to 14th centuries.

Like many similar buildings, it was altered several times over the centuries. The most important work took place from 1515 to 1520, to bring more comfort and light to this austere fortress. The building was listed as a historic monument in 1932.
