Abbaye de Flaran
The Abbey of Flaran is a former Cistercian abbey, a daughter house of the Abbey of L'Escaladieu (Hautes-Pyrénées), at Valence-sur-Baïse in the Gers. It was founded in 1151, where the Auloue meets the Baïse, between Condom and Auch, by monks from L'Escaladieu.
A jewel of Cistercian art and a listed historic monument, it is one of the best-preserved abbeys in south-west France, still with all its monastic buildings and its garden (also listed). Since 2000 it has housed the Gers département's heritage and museums service, which runs many cultural activities throughout the year (exhibitions, educational events, concerts, conferences), covering every field of heritage from archaeology to contemporary art.
