Château du Lude
The château du Lude, in the Sarthe, at the crossroads of Anjou, Maine and Touraine, counts among the great Loire châteaux. The original fortress was built from the tenth to the fifteenth century, on the banks of the Loir, to defend Anjou against the incursions of the Normans, then the English during the Hundred Years' War. Gilles de Rais, the legendary baron, left his memory there.
The castle was then transformed into a pleasure residence, with Renaissance-style façades and terraced gardens on the river. The visit lets you admire the façades, apartments and gardens, and combines with the discovery of the Loir valley.
