Château des Boulayes

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France

The Château des Boulayes, or Boullayes, is a Neoclassical château in the commune of Châtres, near Tournan-en-Brie, in the Seine-et-Marne. It was built from 1785 by the architect Nicolas-Claude Girardin, a collaborator of Étienne-Louis Boullée, for Claude Bellanger, lieutenant of the King's household guards and a protégé of Madame du Barry.

He was able to undertake this large building thanks to the dowry of his wife, the daughter of a Genoese banker. Bellanger emigrated during the Revolution; his château was confiscated and sold as national property. The building is part of a site registered in 1947.
