Château de la Grange-le-Roy

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France

La Grange-le-Roy, in the Seine-et-Marne, is a former seigneury made up of a château and a farm on the edge of the La Léchelle woods. Formerly called Grange-Nivelon, after a Paris money-changer who lived there in the 14th century, the hamlet took its final name when Jacques Le Roy became its lord. He built a group of pavilions, galleries and courtyards surrounded by moats.

In 1608 the estate passed to François Le Roy, then to a series of owners, down to Armand de La Grange in 1813. He demolished most of the château, which had been burned during the Revolution, except the left wing and the corner pavilion of the right wing.
